The Industrial History Trust has been born out of the work of ‘The View from the North’, a family run, Leeds based independent production company who are best known for the long running, prime time, industrial history series’ on BBC2 with the late Fred Dibnah. Fred received an MBE in 2004 for services to Industrial heritage and broadcasting and through the trust we want to continue to support the preservation of this important part of our history. Office accommodation, production expertise, camera and sound recording equipment and editing facilities are all being provided by the company at no cost to the Trust. The trustees are Fred’s biographer and producer, David Hall and his long standing friend, industrial historian, Alan McEwen.
The Objectives of the Trust
- To advance the education of the general public in the subject of industrial and social history particularly through the recording, collating, preserving and archiving of the living and working industrial heritage of Britain.
- To advance the health and sense of worth of elderly people through the stimulation of memories.
A resource that is freely available to everyone.
Individuals, schools and educational establishments, community groups and voluntary organisations have free access to the archive through the Industrial History Trust website and will be able to use all of the materials for their own research and non commercial projects. The site is fully interactive with a facility for individuals and groups to upload their own memories and add them to the archive.
